SHILLONG : Cook-cum-Helpers working under the PM Poshan Scheme in
Meghalaya and across the North East have warned that they may stop
implementing the flagship school nutrition programme if the Union
Government fails to increase their monthly honorarium.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Khroo L. Pariat, Adviser of the
Cook-cum-Helper PM Poshan, Meghalaya, said the workers have been
receiving only Rs 900 per month from the Centre for more than two
decades and have urged the government to revise the amount to Rs 9,000
per month.

Pariat said a memorandum has already been submitted to the Prime
Minister, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance seeking
an immediate enhancement of the Union Government’s contribution.

“On behalf of the Cook-cum-Helpers of Meghalaya and the North Eastern
region, we sincerely appeal to the Prime Minister to enhance the
decade-old honorarium,” he said.
