SHILLONG : Personnel of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) recovered the body of a young man who drowned in a small water body at a private property in Mawdiangdiang on Monday.
According to the Directorate of Civil Defence and Home Guards, Meghalaya, the 1st SDRF Battalion, Shillong, was activated by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), East Khasi Hills, at around 2:24 pm following information about the drowning incident.
The SDRF team immediately left its headquarters at the CD&HG Complex, Mawdiangdiang, and reached the incident site at around 2:35 pm.
The team learnt that the incident had occurred at around 12 noon. The search and rescue operation was subsequently launched under the leadership of Inspector S. Dkhar.
After the search operation, SDRF personnel recovered the body of the young man at around 3 pm.
The recovery was carried out in the presence of police personnel from Mawdiangdiang Outpost and the Headman of Mawdiangdiang.
The recovered body was subsequently handed over to the police for necessary legal formalities.
The Directorate of Civil Defence and Home Guards said the SDRF personnel carried out the rescue operation promptly following activation by the DDMA.
