SHILLONG : A shocking case of alleged molestation has come to light in Laitumkhrah, Shillong, where a man posing as a pharmacist has been detained and handed over to the police by members of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Laitumkhrah Unit.
The accused, identified as Bulu Malakar from Karimganj district in Assam, was reportedly working as a salesperson but falsely claimed to be a qualified pharmacist at a local medical store named Meghalaya Pharmacy in Laitumkhrah.
According to reports, the incident came to light after a young woman visited the pharmacy to purchase medicine for a mouth-related ailment. The accused allegedly lured her into a room, claiming that it was necessary to check her blood pressure.
Once inside, he reportedly asked her to lie down and pretended to conduct a medical examination. During this time, he allegedly touched her inappropriately and attempted to assault her by trying to remove her clothing. The victim, however, managed to escape immediately and fled from the pharmacy.
The victim promptly informed members of the KSU, who, along with local youth groups and residents of Laitumkhrah, took swift action. With the assistance of the local shnong authorities, the accused was identified and apprehended from New Colony area.
He was subsequently handed over to the police at Laitumkhrah Police Station. A formal complaint has been lodged by the victim’s family, along with the shnong and the KSU. The matter has also been reported to the Meghalaya State Commission for Women.
In response to the incident, local residents and organizations have sealed the pharmacy and issued a stern warning against such acts, demanding strict punishment for the accused.
Police have taken up the case, and further investigation is currently underway.
