In a major crackdown to improve road safety and enforce traffic discipline, the East Khasi Hills Police carried out a special naka drive during the intervening night of April 25 and 26, 2026, across key areas of Shillong.
The enforcement drive was conducted under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, along with the SP (City/Traffic) and Additional SP Traffic, covering three major sectors of the city — Sadar, Laitumkhrah and Lumdiengjri.
The late-night operation aimed to curb rising traffic violations and unsafe driving practices, especially during night hours when such offences are more frequent. Police teams carried out coordinated naka checking at multiple locations to ensure strict enforcement.
During the drive, officials focused on key violations including drunk driving, illegal exhaust and light modifications, use of black-tinted glasses, and verification of vehicle documents under the Motor Vehicles Act.
👉 A total of 194 traffic violations were detected during the operation, with fines amounting to ₹2,46,000 imposed on offenders.
More than 100 police personnel were deployed across the city, including Traffic Branch In-Charges and Officers-in-Charge of various police stations. Each naka point was monitored by Gazetted Officers to ensure smooth coordination and strict enforcement.
The initiative highlights the strong commitment of the East Khasi Hills Police towards ensuring safer roads, improving public compliance, and maintaining strict traffic discipline across Shillong.
Authorities have indicated that such drives will continue in the future to deter violations and promote responsible driving among citizens.
