Meghalaya Cabinet Minister Marcuise N Marak has strongly condemned a poster allegedly signed by ISIS-K, which warned members of the Garo community to vacate their land, terming it an act of intimidation and a threat to peaceful coexistence.
Assuring firm action, Marak stated that the district administration of West Garo Hills has been alerted and is actively working to identify and take action against those responsible for circulating the poster.
“As representatives of Meghalaya, but first as citizens and members of the Garo community, I strongly condemn this act of intimidation and threat against our land, our people, and our peaceful coexistence,” Marak said on Wednesday.
He emphasized that Meghalaya has always stood for harmony, mutual respect, and unity among all communities, irrespective of religion or caste, and reiterated that such attempts to spread fear and division would not be tolerated.
“Such attempts to spread fear and division have no place in our society. Meghalaya has always stood for harmony, mutual respect, and unity among all communities, and we remain firmly committed to these values,” he added.
The minister further confirmed that the administration is maintaining strict vigilance to prevent any escalation of the situation.
“The district administration has been informed and is maintaining strict vigilance to identify and take action against those responsible for this provocative and unlawful act,” Marak said.
Urging calm, Marak appealed to the public to remain united and vigilant, and to place full faith in the government and law enforcement agencies.
“I urge everyone to remain calm, united, and vigilant, and to place full faith in our Government, administration, and the law to protect our people and our land,” he said.
