Shillong : In a major breakthrough against vehicle theft, a special team from the Pasteur Beat House apprehended two suspected bike thieves from the Polo area of Shillong for their alleged involvement in multiple motorcycle theft cases.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Cornelius Mukhim alias Bryan (20), a resident of Mawlai Mawroh, Shillong, and Meshanki Lamare (21), a resident of Sapai, Jowai.
According to police sources, the duo is suspected of being involved in several bike theft incidents reported from different parts of Shillong. Preliminary investigations indicate that the stolen motorcycles were allegedly transported towards the Bangladesh border.
During the operation, police recovered several items believed to have been used in carrying out the thefts. These included a Taparia Torx key set, a Taparia Allen key set, two wire stripper pliers, a Taparia screwdriver, cash amounting to ₹19,500, a metal gun-shaped lighter, and two Nike sling bags.
Police have taken the accused into custody and further investigation is underway to ascertain their involvement in other vehicle theft cases. Both individuals are scheduled to be produced before the court on Wednesday.
Authorities have urged vehicle owners to remain vigilant and adopt necessary security measures to prevent theft.
