Shillong : Alert villagers in Umthli under Pynursla Police Station successfully foiled a motorcycle theft attempt, leading to the arrest of three suspected bike lifters on Friday.
According to Vivek Syiem, Superintendent of Police of East Khasi Hills, the accused have been identified as Pyndapborlang Khonglah, Bamkerlang Surong, and Iohborlang Mylliem of Umlong.
The arrests followed a complaint filed by Rahul Thapa, who reported that his motorcycle — Yamaha MT-15 (ML 05 AC 4622) — was stolen from the Goenka Compound parking area.
Police registered a case under Sadar PS Case No. 42(02)2026 under Section 305(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
During the operation, authorities seized:
Hyundai i10 (ML 05Z 5650)
Maruti Alto 800 (ML 05N 4146)
One Vivo mobile phone
One Samsung mobile phone
One Poco mobile phone
Police said further investigation is underway to determine the suspects’ involvement in other two-wheeler theft cases.
The swift action by local residents played a crucial role in preventing the theft and assisting police in apprehending the suspects.
