SHILLONG : The opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) has taken a significant step to strengthen its presence in Garo Hills by forming an adhoc committee aimed at expanding its base and addressing issues of corruption in the state.
Speaking at a meeting held in Tura on Friday, VPP chief Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit expressed satisfaction over the party’s entry into Garo Hills. He stated that the move comes in response to the growing demand among the people for a credible political alternative in the region.
“We call upon the people of Garo Hills to join hands with the VPP to bring about change in the state and fight against corruption,” Basaiawmoit said.
As part of the new structure, Khronolaikh Marak has been appointed as president of the adhoc committee, while Ronald Sangma will serve as secretary. The executive committee members include Ryan S Marak, Joba Marak, Tengsim Momin, Jim Reeves Momin, and Thinker Marak.
In addition, Abhi D Sangma has been named as the adhoc president of the VPP Garo Zone Youth Wing, with Salchura S Sangma appointed as secretary.
The party expressed optimism that the formation of the new committee will help in bringing positive change in Meghalaya, particularly in Garo Hills, by strengthening grassroots engagement and promoting transparent governance.
