Shillong : Voice of the People Party (VPP) president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit has called on the people of Meghalaya to participate in the party’s peaceful march to the Main Secretariat on August 6, saying the time has come to send a “very strong message” to the MDA government.
In a video statement released on Tuesday, Basaiawmoit said the protest is aimed at highlighting the growing problems confronting the state and the hardships being faced by its people.
“There are countless issues and challenges facing Meghalaya today, resulting in immense suffering for the people. That is why the VPP has decided to organise this peaceful march,” he said.
The VPP leader described the march as a reflection of public frustration and appealed to all citizens, particularly those affected by government policies, to join the protest.
He alleged that the MDA government has pursued anti-local and anti-poor policies, allowed corruption to flourish, promoted divisive politics, and failed to protect the environment in the name of development.
Basaiawmoit also claimed that the march would express the people’s anger, dissatisfaction and opposition to what he described as the government’s failure to address the concerns of the public.
Calling for unity, he urged the people to stand together to safeguard the interests of the indigenous communities of Meghalaya.
“The government must stop policies that are against the interests of the indigenous people. Now is the time for all of us to unite and work towards a brighter future for our state and its people,” he said.
