Amid the Coronavirus Pandemic and Global Crisis, there has been a drastic surge in CHILD LABOUR across the globe due to people facing employment woes. For last 12 years, SPARK has been working with the children making every effort to rescue children from child labour and all other forms of child exploitation. Also, working relentlessly to bring these children back to school and giving them a platform for fulfilling their aims in life leading to a brighter future.

This year too on the 12th of June 2021, SPARK  observed this special day with this year’s theme” ACT NOW, END CHILD LABOUR”. The major objective was to spread awareness among the communities about this social evil of Child Labour which ruins the lives of the children snatching away their beautiful childhood and pushing them into the darkness of abuse and exploitation. Ms. Shima Modak sensitized the communities on their important role and responsibilities to eradicate it completely this illegal practice of child labour that still prevails. She also spoke to the parents about parenting and caring towards the development and welfare of their children.

SPARK observed the day following all the necessary SOP led down for COVID 19. During the day, the children too participated holding placards raising their voice to STOP CHILD LABOUR and ensure a healthy CHILDHOOD to every CHILD. The programme was organized at Bara Bazaar Slum and Mawlong Village.

Besides, 12 more children being engaged as child labour were brought back to Education and enrolled in SPARK Educational Centre. Books and Pen were handed over to them and now they will be holding SCHOOL BAGS instead of  RAGS BAG.

Masks and soaps were also  distributed among the children to protect against the COVID 19 as well as explaining to them the necessary precautions to be followed by them, their families and communities as a whole to fight against this Pandemic.

The day was well spent interacting with the children and communities with satisfying outcomes.

Since SPARK has been going through critical sustenance problems, we request the concerned adults to kindly come forward to help SPARK, in whatever possible way, to help it sustain and continue with its endeavours to work for societal welfare and humanity as a whole.
