SHILLONG : Two Khasi girls, aged 15 and 18, from East Jaintia Hills have been rescued from a trafficking attempt in Delhi and Haryana by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Delhi Unit in collaboration with the Special Police Unit for North‑East Region (SPUNER).
The girls were lured to Delhi with promises of domestic work but were later taken to a spa in Haryana and pressured into prostitution. According to KSU Delhi Unit president Marbiang Khongwir, the girls managed to call their families in fear, who immediately alerted the union. SPUNER was then informed and joined forces with KSU to rescue them.
“This incident highlights the serious risks our youth face when seeking employment outside Meghalaya,” Khongwir said. “We urge parents and young people to verify job offers carefully. KSU remains committed to safeguarding Khasi lives in the Delhi-NCR region.”
Reports suggest the minors were brought to Delhi by an acquaintance from Meghalaya without parental consent. A joint KSU-SPUNER team successfully located the girls in Haryana and ensured their safe release.
KSU expressed gratitude to Sabrina of ARC Meghalaya House, Joint CP Nabam Gungte of SPUNER, and the SPUNER rescue team, including Sub-Inspector Ngalung Wung, ASI Naveen Kumar, HC Satish Kumar, and W/CT Lalrinhluni. Counseling is being arranged, and efforts are ongoing to reunite the girls with their families in Meghalaya.
