Ri-Bhoi : Concerns over LPG supply surfaced in Ri-Bhoi district as residents began queuing up early in the morning at gas distribution points, fearing a possible shortage of cooking gas cylinders.
The situation was particularly visible at the MS Ri-Bhoi Gas Agency located in Mawtnum, where a large number of people gathered since morning to secure their gas cylinders amid circulating reports of supply issues.
In response to the growing concern, the district administration recently constituted a District LPG Supply Monitoring Committee and held its first meeting today. The meeting was chaired by Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, along with officials and representatives from various gas agencies, to review and streamline the supply and distribution system.
Speaking to the media, the Deputy Commissioner clarified that while there is no actual shortage of LPG, the district has been experiencing reduced and delayed supply compared to previous months. This has created temporary difficulties in meeting the demand of consumers.
He further informed that gas agencies have been instructed to prepare a separate list of commercial cylinder users, which will help in better management of domestic supply and ensure fair distribution among households.
Meanwhile, the proprietor of MS Ri-Bhoi Gas Agency, Victor Maxx Rynjah, urged the public not to panic. He reassured that LPG companies have confirmed there is no shortage of gas supply.
However, he acknowledged that the arrival of gas cylinders has slowed down, while the number of consumers continues to rise. As a result, the supply is currently insufficient to meet the full demand of all consumers who have booked cylinders.
Authorities have assured that necessary steps are being taken to stabilize the supply situation and prevent further inconvenience to the public.
