SHILLONG : The Meghalaya unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has sent a list of nine ticket aspirants to the party’s central leadership for a final decision on its candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha byelection.
BJP Meghalaya president Rikman G Momin said the application process for those seeking the party ticket has already closed and that the names of all applicants have been forwarded to the central leadership.
Momin made the statement while responding to questions about speculation surrounding the party’s chief spokesperson and former IPS officer M Kharkrang being considered for the byelection.
Asked specifically whether Kharkrang was among those in contention, Momin said, “I don’t know.”
He was also asked about former Nongthymmai MLA Jemino Mawthoh. Momin declined to disclose whether Mawthoh was among the applicants being considered, saying, “I cannot tell you right now in front of you.”
The BJP state president reiterated that the application process had already concluded and that the names of the applicants had been sent to the party’s central leadership.
The final decision on the BJP’s candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha byelection will now be taken by the party’s central leadership.
