Shillong : In a significant step toward improving school infrastructure and promoting hygiene, Indus Towers has inaugurated girls’ washroom facilities across 11 government schools in Ri-Bhoi district under its flagship CSR initiative, Pragati.
The inauguration ceremony was held at Nehru Memorial Higher Secondary School and was attended by Andrew L. Myrthong, Block Development Officer of Umsning C&RD Block and in-charge Assistant Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi. The event was also live-casted to six additional schools where similar facilities have been developed.
Speaking on the occasion, Myrthong emphasized the importance of proper sanitation in schools, stating that access to clean and safe washroom facilities is essential to ensure a comfortable learning environment, particularly for young girls. He added that such initiatives strengthen the foundation of the education system while supporting the overall wellbeing of students. He also appreciated the efforts of Indus Towers and its partners for contributing to infrastructure development in the region.
Highlighting the impact of the initiative, Rajender Gurung, Circle CEO – NESA of Indus Towers Ltd., said that access to hygienic sanitation facilities plays a vital role in maintaining the dignity, health, and confidence of school-going girls. He noted that through the Pragati initiative, the company aims to bridge critical infrastructure gaps that may affect education outcomes, especially in underserved areas.
The project has been implemented by Northeast Centre for Equity Action on Integrated Development, which has been working closely with local schools and communities to enhance sanitation infrastructure. Indus Towers continues to collaborate with community partners to expand access to essential facilities across various parts of India, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable development and social impact.
