Shillong : Officials of the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB), accompanied by magistrates, carried out an inspection drive in the Khyndailad area on Tuesday, which has been officially declared a bending zone where street vending is prohibited.
The inspection was conducted following reports that some vendors had resumed selling goods in the restricted areas despite the earlier notification. The designated bending zone stretches from Khyndailad Point up to Dreamland, covering parts of GS Road, and loops back to Khyndailad Point.
During the inspection, authorities did not find any street vendors operating in the prohibited zone. However, several দোকান (shops) were found displaying their goods outside their premises, encroaching onto public space.
The SMB officials immediately instructed the shopkeepers to remove all items placed outside and ensure that their goods are kept within the limits of their shops. The authorities emphasized strict adherence to the rules to maintain order and prevent congestion in one of Shillong’s busiest commercial hubs.
The inspection is part of ongoing efforts by the Shillong Municipal Board to enforce regulations and keep the Khyndailad area free from unauthorized vending and encroachments.
