Shillong :The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) NEHU Unit on March 14 visited Neima Children’s Home as part of a humanitarian outreach programme aimed at supporting and encouraging children living at the orphanage.
The visit was led by Ibakordor Marwein, General Secretary of the KSU NEHU Unit, along with other members of the organization. The programme was organised under the theme “Be the Seed of Goodness.”
During the visit, the members interacted closely with the children, spending time engaging in games, fun activities, and celebrations to bring joy and encouragement to them.
The caretaker and manager of the children’s home, Babu Khonglah, shared the background behind the establishment of the orphanage. He explained that the home was set up after observing that many children who had lost their parents were often sent to other states through the support of external missions. In response to this situation, the founders decided to establish a local children’s home so that such children could receive care and support within the state itself.
He also mentioned that many more children are seeking admission to the home, but due to limited space and resources, the institution is currently unable to accommodate additional residents.
Apart from offering encouragement and support, the KSU NEHU Unit also organised various recreational activities and games for children ranging from Nursery and Kindergarten to Class 12. The programme was aimed at spreading happiness, love, and positivity among the children.
The event also showcased the talents and abilities of the children, many of whom participated enthusiastically in different activities organised during the visit.
According to the KSU NEHU Unit, the purpose of the visit was to inspire the children not to lose hope but to remain motivated and continue working hard in their studies. The organization encouraged them to believe that through dedication and perseverance, they would one day be able to contribute positively to society and help others who are facing hardships.
The union expressed hope that their visit would serve as both encouragement for the children and an example for society to come forward and extend support to those in need.
