Nongpoh :The Meghalaya ASHA Workers Union (MAWU) on Monday expressed shock over the sudden removal of several ASHA workers in Ri-Bhoi district and sought clarification from the district administration.
A delegation of MAWU leaders met the Abhilash Baranwal, Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi District, to raise concerns over the issue after many ASHA workers from different parts of the district were allegedly removed from their duties without any prior notice or warning.
Speaking to reporters, Sony Kharjana, Adviser of MAWU, accompanied by Mirajune Myrsing, President of the union, along with other members, said the organization was taken by surprise by the sudden termination of the ASHA workers.
She stated that the union was deeply concerned about the decision, as many of the affected workers had not received any official communication or explanation before being removed from their duties.
According to information received by the union, the removal of the ASHA workers was reportedly carried out following instructions from the Deputy Commissioner through the office of the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO).
In view of the situation, the MAWU delegation met the Deputy Commissioner to seek a detailed clarification regarding the reasons behind the sudden removal and to understand the circumstances under which the decision was taken.
The union has urged the district administration to provide a clear explanation and ensure that the concerns of the affected ASHA workers are addressed.
