SHILLONG : Voice of the People Party (VPP) Member of Parliament from Shillong, Dr AJ Syngkon, has urged the Union Ministry of Textiles to take immediate action to address the administrative and academic shortcomings at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Shillong.
In a memorandum submitted to Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh on Tuesday, Dr Syngkon highlighted several critical issues affecting the institute, including the absence of a regular Director, vacant administrative positions, and a shortage of faculty members. He stated that these shortcomings are severely impacting both governance and the quality of academic delivery at the institute.
Calling for urgent intervention, the MP requested the Ministry to initiate time-bound corrective measures, including the appointment of a full-time Director and the immediate filling of all sanctioned administrative and academic posts.
Dr Syngkon emphasised that institutions of national importance like NIFT require stable leadership and adequate staffing to maintain academic excellence and administrative efficiency.
“Strengthening the institutional capacity of NIFT Shillong is essential to ensure that it functions in line with national standards and fulfils its mandate effectively, particularly for the North Eastern region,” he added.
