Responding to public concerns over delays in the release of development schemes, Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Executive Member in charge of Development, Powell Sohklet, clarified that the delay is largely due to mandatory online audit procedures.
Speaking to reporters on February 23, Sohklet said the delay occurred while complying with audit requirements necessary before funds can be released.
He informed that the Executive Committee (EC) has already submitted scheme proposals for the financial years 2022–2023 under the Fifteenth Finance Commission, and they are hopeful of receiving approval soon.
Sohklet further stated that the EC has submitted a total of 2,457 schemes, including both tied and untied categories.
All the schemes have been uploaded to the Ministry of Panchayati Raj’s e-Gram Swaraj portal, which is used for monitoring and implementation.
The clarification comes amid public dissatisfaction over the non-release of schemes even after one year of the Voice of the People Party (VPP)-led Executive Committee taking charge of the council.
