NONGPOH : The Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong (SRS) Ri-Bhoi Mihngi has urged the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) to provide compensation to the family of the three children who tragically lost their lives after being electrocuted.
A delegation of the SRS, led by Chairman P.B. Sylliang and General Secretary Ailong Pariat, met Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Dr. Abhishek Saini on Thursday and submitted a memorandum requesting the district administration to direct concerned officials to strengthen safety measures and prevent similar incidents in the future.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Sylliang said the organisation immediately visited the bereaved family to express condolences and extend moral support following the heartbreaking tragedy.
He said the SRS has appealed to the Deputy Commissioner to ensure that MeECL provides adequate compensation to the victims’ family. While no amount of money can replace the loss of three young lives, he said financial assistance would help the family cope with the difficult situation.
The organisation also called on the authorities to fix responsibility and improve electrical safety to prevent such tragic incidents from recurring.
