Shillong : The Meghalaya Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Association has announced that Mr. B. Kyrmenskhem Lyngdoh from Upper Lumparing has been nominated to attend the prestigious Basic Mountaineering Course (BMC) at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute in Darjeeling.
The course is scheduled to be held from April 1 to April 28, 2026, and is considered one of the most respected foundational training programs in mountaineering in India.
According to MeSCMA, preference for nomination is given to association members who have demonstrated excellence by winning medals at national and zonal championships. The selection of Kyrmenskhem Lyngdoh reflects his strong performance and potential in sport climbing and mountaineering.
The training program is being sponsored by the Office of the Director, Directorate General of Assam Rifles, providing an important opportunity for the young athlete to gain professional-level exposure.
The Basic Mountaineering Course (BMC) is designed to introduce participants to the core principles of mountaineering. It includes both theoretical and practical training in rock climbing, snow and ice techniques, navigation, weather understanding, and mountain medicine.
Participants are also trained to develop the right mindset, encouraging them to view mountaineering as an art that requires discipline, patience, and respect for nature. The course further emphasizes physical endurance, adaptability to extreme environments, and awareness of conserving the fragile Himalayan ecosystem.
Through this training, participants learn to manage challenges such as cold conditions, fatigue, and limited resources, preparing them for advanced mountaineering pursuits.
MeSCMA has extended its best wishes to Kyrmenskhem Lyngdoh for successfully completing the course and achieving greater milestones in the field of mountaineering, bringing pride to Meghalaya.
