SHILLONG : Three top leaders of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) — president Raymond Kharjana, vice president Pynkmenlang Sanmiet and general secretary Reuben Najiar — were shifted from jails in the Garo Hills to Shillong district jail on Tuesday.
Former KSU general secretary Donald V Thabah said he met the three leaders in the morning and confirmed that they are in good health and receiving the required medication.
According to Thabah, the jailed leaders have authorised the KSU Central Executive Committee (CEC) members outside the jail to convene a meeting and take a decision on the Meghalaya government’s invitation for talks.
The proposed talks are expected to focus on the five demands raised by the KSU.
Meanwhile, the KSU assistant organising secretary was also arrested, taking the total number of arrests to four in connection with the violence during the black-flag bike rally.
Police have alleged that two vehicles were torched, 31 vehicles were vandalised and 18 people were assaulted during the August 19 incident.
The KSU CEC is now expected to decide its response to the government’s invitation while its top leaders remain in judicial custody.
