SHILLONG : Meghalaya Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui has dismissed allegations of bias in the allocation of funds for repairing school buildings and urged KHADC Executive Member and Mawthadraishan MDC Powell Sohkhlet to utilize funds from his own MDC scheme.
Responding to the allegations, Rymbui said he was unaware of the basis of such claims. “I am unsure who is making these allegations and on what grounds. However, since 2018, we have prioritized repairing and renovating school infrastructure to ensure quality education,” he said.
The Minister informed that the government has sanctioned repair works for 186 schools under Mission-IV this year, as part of its continued efforts to improve the education system.
Suggesting an alternative approach, Rymbui said that as an MDC, Sohkhlet has access to his own scheme funds. “He should allocate more funds from his MDC scheme for school repairs,” he added.
Highlighting the government’s ongoing efforts, Rymbui stated that improving school infrastructure remains a key focus area. “We are doing our best, but it is a continuous process,” he said.
He also called for cooperation among all stakeholders, urging them to work together rather than make allegations. “Let us appreciate the initiative and collaborate for the benefit of students,” he said.
Rymbui further credited Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for prioritizing education in the state. “His leadership has made education a top priority, and we are now seeing positive results,” he added.
Appealing for unity, the Minister said, “Let us refrain from pointing fingers and work together to strengthen the education system. Ultimately, the benefit is for the students.”
