SHILLONG : Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday chaired a series of high-level review meetings at Tara Ghar State Guest House to assess the progress of key initiatives aimed at strengthening infrastructure and public services across the state.
The discussions primarily focused on urban development projects, including beautification, cleanliness, and waste management in major towns such as Shillong, Jowai, and Tura.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of community participation in maintaining cleanliness and improving waste and water management systems. He noted that the government aims to work closely with local communities to enhance the overall urban environment.
A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to preparations for the upcoming National Games of India. Sangma reviewed detailed plans related to infrastructure readiness, accommodation, transportation, logistics, and the expected participation of athletes from across the country.
“We went into all the details regarding infrastructure, accommodation, transport, the number of athletes, and the venues for different sporting events,” he stated.
In addition to sports and urban development, the Chief Minister also discussed a proposal to establish a Centre of Excellence for Agar, highlighting it as a sector with immense potential for growth and economic opportunity in Meghalaya.
The review meetings further covered the performance of the state’s forest department, with a focus on improving services and enhancing revenue generation.
Sangma also held discussions with the Meghalaya Transport Corporation to explore ways to optimize the use of its assets and improve operational efficiency.
The series of meetings reflects the government’s continued push towards holistic development, combining infrastructure growth, environmental management, and economic opportunities for the people of Meghalaya.
