NONGPOH: An ambulance carrying a dead body overturned in the middle of Nongpoh town on Sunday morning, reportedly due to overspeeding.
The ambulance, belonging to the Seng Samla Mawlai Pyllun, was on its way to West Garo Hills after transporting the body of a deceased person from NEIGRIHMS. The incident occurred at around 6:00 AM.
According to sources, the ambulance (Eeco, registration number ML 05 X 8518) was being driven by Bah Rishan Kharmyndai when it suddenly lost control and overturned on the main road, allegedly due to high speed.
Several occupants inside the vehicle sustained minor injuries in the accident.
Nongpoh Traffic Police rushed to the spot immediately after the incident and have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
The injured persons were shifted to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for treatment, while the dead body was kept at the hospital mortuary.
Authorities have urged drivers, especially those handling emergency vehicles, to maintain caution and avoid overspeeding to prevent such incidents.
