Shillong : Two masked men allegedly hurled petrol bombs at the office of the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) in Shillong on Monday. No damage to the property was reported, and police have launched an investigation to identify those responsible.
According to MSPCB officials, the incident occurred between 12:00 pm and 12:30 pm. The two suspects reportedly arrived on separate scooters and threw petrol bombs at two different locations inside the office premises before fleeing the scene.
An MSPCB official confirmed that although petrol bombs were used in the attack, no damage was caused to the building or other property.
The Board has lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at Laitumkhrah Police Station.
Following the incident, police and forensic experts visited the site to collect evidence.
Shillong City Superintendent of Police Dangsan Khyriem confirmed that two petrol bombs had been hurled and said the investigation had already begun.
“The MSPCB will be filing an FIR and once that is done we will immediately register the case. Investigation has already started to nab the culprits,” he said.
The forensic team has confirmed that the explosive devices used in the attack were petrol bombs.
When asked whether the incident was linked to the recent protests over the proposed Shree Cement project in East Jaintia Hills, SP Khyriem said the motive behind the attack was still under investigation.
“I do not know as that is pending investigation,” he said.
Police are continuing their investigation to establish the motive behind the attack and identify those involved.
