SHILLONG : Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has said the Meghalaya government remains committed to listening to the concerns of its people, particularly on issues affecting the Christian community.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Dhar said Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma recently led a delegation of church elders to New Delhi to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and discuss concerns related to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA).
According to Dhar, the Chief Minister secured the appointment to enable representatives of the Christian community to directly present their concerns before the Union Home Minister.
“The Union Home Minister gave time to our Chief Minister. Under his leadership, the church elders met Amit Shah and placed their requests regarding FCRA-related matters,” Dhar said.
He emphasized that protecting the interests of the Christian community continues to be a priority for the Meghalaya government.
“Under Conrad Sangma’s leadership, we have always stood for the protection of our Christian community. People have faith in our Chief Minister, and we are proud of that,” he said.
Dhar further stated that whenever issues affecting churches or the Christian community arise, the state government listens and takes appropriate action.
He also thanked the Government of India and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for giving the delegation an opportunity to present their concerns.
