SHILLONG : The Meghalaya Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) arrested two persons and seized 32.64 grams of heroin worth an estimated ₹5 lakh during two separate operations at Umiam on August 10.
According to ANTF officials, the operations were conducted based on intelligence inputs regarding suspected drug trafficking towards Shillong.
SP Vikash Kumar said the ANTF had set up nakas at strategic locations to intercept suspected traffickers travelling towards Shillong.
In the first operation, the ANTF intercepted a car bearing registration number AS-01-AV-1166 at Lad Umiam.
The occupant, identified as Allan Marwein of Mawlai Nongkwar, was allegedly found in possession of 10.93 grams of heroin, concealed inside a soap case.
Later, the ANTF intercepted a scooty bearing registration number ML-05-AB-9546 after its rider allegedly attempted to evade the naka.
The rider, identified as Jaziel Nongjop Syiem, was allegedly found carrying 21.71 grams of heroin concealed inside his jacket.
“Both substances tested positive for heroin and were seized under the NDPS Act. The accused were arrested,” Kumar said.
The seized contraband has been taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation, while further legal proceedings against the arrested persons are underway.
