The National Statistics Office (NSO), under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Government of India, conducted a three-day Regional Training Camp (RTC) from 18th to 20th June 2025 in Shillong on the upcoming nationwide surveys, namely the Domestic Tourism Expenditure Survey (DTES), the National Household Travel Survey (NHTS), and the Pilot Study on Construction Activities. The training camp saw the participation of officers and staff from the NSO regional offices in Shillong and Tura, as well as representatives from the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Shillong. The Domestic Tourism Expenditure Survey (DTES), to be conducted from July 2025 to June 2026 as part of the 80th Round of the National Sample Survey (NSS), will collect detailed information on household expenditure related to domestic overnight tourism. It will also capture data on visitor demographics, household characteristics, and trip features, which will be used to develop the Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) of India. The National Household Travel Survey (NHTS), which will run concurrently, is designed to gather vital information on travel behaviour, including the purpose, timing, and destination of trips made by individuals. This data will provide valuable insights for infrastructure development, transportation planning, and policy decisions, especially in support of the Ministry of Railways and other transport-related ministries and departments.Alongside these, the NSO will also conduct a pilot study on Construction Activities from July to December 2025. The study will focus on construction undertaken by unincorporated sector establishments, excluding own entrepreneurial purposes, and household-level own-account construction. The findings will assist the National Accounts Division in estimating the Gross Value Output (GVO) and Gross Value Added (GVA) of the construction sector more accurately. The data collected from these surveys will serve as critical inputs for evidence-based policy formulation, economic planning, and program implementation at both national and state levels. As such, the success of these efforts relies heavily on the accuracy and completeness of the information provided by respondents. The NSO appeals to the public to extend full cooperation to the NSS field staff during survey operations and to provide truthful and complete responses. Public awareness and participation are crucial to ensuring the reliability and impact of the data collected.
