The East Khasi Hills district administration has imposed a ban on the movement of heavy loaded vehicles exceeding 9 metric tonnes (MT) on the Thangsning–Thynroit–Mawpyrshong Road and the Mawkynrew–Mynsang–Jatah Road with immediate effect.
The order has been issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to prevent further deterioration of the roads, which have reportedly suffered extensive damage due to the frequent movement of overloaded vehicles.
According to the district administration, the continued plying of heavy vehicles on these stretches poses a serious safety risk to local commuters and threatens the structural integrity of public infrastructure.
The administration has warned that violators will face legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with other relevant provisions of the law.
The restriction has come into force immediately and will remain effective until further notice, the order stated.
