SHILLONG : The All-India Law Graduate Conclave 2026 commenced on Friday at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), bringing together law graduates, legal academics, practitioners and distinguished guests from across the country.
The inaugural session was held at the Central Auditorium of USTM, marking the beginning of a national platform for discussions and exchange of ideas on legal education and the legal profession.
The two-day conclave will feature a range of competitions, including the 3rd and largest Moot Court Competition, Judgment Writing, Extempore Speech, Law Quiz, Debate and Crime Scene Investigation competitions.
The inaugural session was attended by Brening A. Sangma, Minister of Border Areas Development Department, Home (Civil Defence and Home Guards) Department and Excise Department, Government of Meghalaya; S.P. Mahanta, Chairman of the Meghalaya State Bar Council; Prof. G.D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, USTM; Prof. Subhram Rajkhowa, Professor Emeritus, USTM; Padma Shri Dr Sarbeswar Sahariya, Pro Vice Chancellor, USTM; Prof. (Dr) A.C. Kataki, Director, Medical Administration, P.A. Sangma International Medical College & Hospital; Dr Anurekha Goswami, Dean, University School of Law and Research (USLR), USTM; and Pawan Agarwal, Social Worker and CEO of Datamation.
Faculty members, legal professionals, delegates and students from across the country also attended the inaugural programme.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Brening A. Sangma said the legal profession carries a significant responsibility towards society and the nation.
“The legal profession carries a great responsibility towards society and the nation. Conclaves such as this provide young law graduates with an opportunity to exchange ideas, broaden their understanding and prepare themselves to contribute meaningfully to the justice system. I am happy to see participants from across the country coming together at USTM for this important platform,” he said.
The conclave has brought together participants from nearly 100 colleges across India, providing them with an opportunity to interact with legal professionals, academicians and policymakers and discuss contemporary issues concerning the legal profession.
The valedictory session on September 26, 2026, is scheduled to be attended by Justice B.R. Gavai, former Chief Justice of India, and Justice Revati Mohite Dere, Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, along with other legal luminaries.
USTM was established in 2011 and is described by the university as the first state private university in the field of Science and Technology in North East India.
The university said it received an ‘A Grade’ accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in its first assessment cycle in 2021 and has been ranked among the top 200 universities by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).
USTM said it remains committed to teaching, research, innovation and community engagement, while promoting inclusivity, sustainability and regional development.
