Born into a musical family led by Deenanath Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle began her career at a young age after her father’s demise. Alongside her legendary sister Lata Mangeshkar, she entered the world of music and films to support her family.
Her career began in 1943 with the Marathi film Majha Bal, and she went on to make her mark in Hindi cinema with early songs in films like Chunariya (1948) and Raat Ki Rani (1949).
Over the years, Asha Bhosle became synonymous with versatility. From peppy cabaret numbers like “Piya Tu Ab To Aaja” and “Yeh Mera Dil” to soulful ghazals like “Dil Cheez Kya Hai” and “In Aankhon Ki Masti,” she effortlessly mastered multiple genres.
Her collaborations with legendary composers like R. D. Burman and O. P. Nayyar created timeless classics such as “Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko” and “Aao Huzoor Tumko,” songs that continue to define Indian music across generations.
In the 1990s and early 2000s, she reinvented herself with modern hits in collaboration with A. R. Rahman, delivering popular tracks like “Rangeela Re” and “Tanha Tanha,” proving her adaptability even in changing musical eras.
Throughout her career, she recorded over 12,000 songs in more than 20 languages, earning global recognition and a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for her unparalleled contribution to music.
Her immense legacy was honoured with prestigious awards, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008, along with multiple National Film Awards.
Even in recent years, she remained connected with audiences. In 2024, she went viral after performing “Tauba Tauba” by Karan Aujla during a concert in Dubai, showcasing her timeless charm and energy.
