Shillong : The Indian National Congress has announced that it will contest all 29 seats in the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections without forming any alliances.
State party chief Vincent H. Pala told reporters that the party is prepared to fight the elections independently.
“The party will contest from all the 29 seats. We do not have any alliance with other parties. We will fight alone in the upcoming elections,” he said.
Pala revealed that the party has received 67 applications from aspiring candidates. One applicant has withdrawn, while another withdrawal is expected, leaving around 65 candidates to be finalized.
He added that the final list of candidates will be announced once the government officially notifies the election schedule.
“We will announce the candidates the moment the government notifies and announces the election — that is the normal procedure of the party,” Pala stated.
Expressing confidence in the party’s election readiness, he said workers are actively engaging with voters on the ground and expressed hope for a strong performance.
“We are ready to face the elections. Our people are on the ground and hopefully we should do well,” he added.
The GHADC elections are expected to be a key political contest in the Garo Hills region, with parties intensifying preparations ahead of the poll notification.
