Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has strongly condemned a racial discrimination incident reported from Malviya Nagar, Delhi, where three women from Arunachal Pradesh were allegedly subjected to racial slurs.
Calling the incident “truly unfortunate” and “unacceptable in today’s world,” Sangma said such behaviour pushes the nation “two steps back.”
“The language used and the body language displayed are very sad and inexcusable,” he told reporters.
Emphasizing India’s diversity, the Chief Minister said mutual respect among communities is essential.
He assured that authorities would extend support to the victims and that the matter could be taken to the highest level if necessary.
Sangma also urged community leaders and local authorities in Delhi to take serious steps to prevent such incidents and promote awareness.
He encouraged people from the Northeast and across the country to stand together and speak out against discrimination.
“Speaking out means supporting one another and creating awareness among those who may not understand. Such incidents should not happen,” he added.
The incident has once again raised concerns about racial discrimination faced by people from Northeast India living in metropolitan cities.
