SHILLONG, FEB 26, 2026: Meghalaya archer Devraj Mohapatra delivered a dominant performance to win gold in the men’s recurve category at the NTPC Khelo India North East Zone Open Archery Tournament held in Shillong on Wednesday.
The prestigious tournament is being hosted by the Archery Association of Meghalaya under the aegis of the Archery Association of India at the Sports Authority of India Shillong Training Centre archery range located at the NEHU campus.
More than 120 archers from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Sikkim are participating in the tournament, which is being conducted across recurve and compound divisions. While the recurve events were held today, the compound category will take place tomorrow.
Men’s Recurve Results
In the final, Devraj Mohapatra of Meghalaya outclassed Manipur’s Keithellakpam Rohit Meitei with a convincing 6-0 victory to secure the gold medal.
The bronze medal match featured an all-Meghalaya contest, where Vivek Sunar defeated Hypormi Wanniang 6-2 to finish third.
Women’s Recurve Results
In the women’s recurve final, Yumnam Anupama Devi of Manipur defeated Vesevolu Swuro of Nagaland 6-2 to claim gold. The bronze medal went to Kevikieno Rikha of Nagaland, who triumphed in a shoot-off against Yaikhombi Thongam of Manipur.
The day began with qualifying rounds in the morning, followed by elimination rounds and medal matches in the afternoon.
The Honourable Sports and Youth Affairs Minister of Meghalaya, Wailadmiki Shylla, attended as the chief guest and distributed prizes to the winners.
Other dignitaries present included Olympian and Arjuna Awardee Chekrovolu Swuro, who currently serves as President of the Nagaland Archery Association and Vice-President of AAI, along with senior officials from various state archery associations.
Strengthening Archery in the North East
This marks the third consecutive year that the AAI has organised the North East Zone tournament. Conducted across five zones nationwide, the initiative aims to strengthen grassroots participation, provide competitive exposure and enhance performance standards among archers from state associations and sports boards.
The support extended by NTPC and SAI reflects a strong commitment to promoting archery in India and improving the competitive edge of the country’s emerging talent.
