United Democratic Party (UDP) leader and Khliehriat legislator Kyrmen Shylla on Wednesday expressed strong confidence that his party will emerge victorious in the upcoming elections, asserting that UDP is fully prepared to face any political challenge.
“We are preparing ourselves and are ready to face the challenge. I firmly believe that UDP will come out with flying colors,” Shylla said, underlining the party’s determination and readiness.
According to the UDP leader, the election results will serve as the true measure of the party’s progress. “The result will tell everything. We are in the process of preparing ourselves, and we are ready to fight,” he added.
Shylla emphasized the need for greater public support, stating that while expectations from UDP are high, the party requires adequate numbers to perform effectively. He appealed to the people of Meghalaya to give UDP the opportunity to prove itself in governance.
“Most of the time, people expect UDP to perform, but to perform, we need a number. We request the people of Meghalaya to give us that number. If we fail to perform, the people can blame us, and we will accept it,” he said.
Addressing concerns about political threats, Shylla remarked that competition is inherent in politics and should not be taken lightly. “Once you enter politics, all parties have their own strategies. Preparing ourselves may also be seen as a threat to others,” he noted.
Concluding his remarks, the UDP leader expressed hope that the people would eventually entrust the party with the responsibility of leading the government. “We expect that people will give us the chance—if not today, then tomorrow. One day, people will realize and give UDP the chance to lead the government, and when they do, we will prove ourselves,” Shylla said.
