SHILLONG : The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has congratulated the Meghalaya Police Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) for seizing illegal drugs worth more than ₹51 crore but stressed that the real success in the fight against drugs will only come when the masterminds behind the syndicates are arrested.
In a statement issued on Saturday, HYC president Roy Kupar Synrem said the massive seizure sends a strong message that law enforcement agencies are determined to crack down on the growing drug trade in the region.
However, he emphasized that authorities must focus on identifying and arresting the “big fish” who control the illegal network.
According to Synrem, the drug trade in the region operates through a highly organized system where vulnerable individuals are often used as carriers, while the financiers and key operators remain hidden behind the scenes.
He said that while the seizure of such a large quantity of drugs is a significant achievement, the real battle against narcotics can only be won when the masterminds, financiers and major players running these syndicates are exposed and brought to justice.
The HYC leader called on investigators to carry out a thorough and uncompromising investigation to dismantle the entire drug network operating in the state.
“Seizing drugs is a major victory, but the real success will come when the kingpins who run the trade from behind the shadows are finally brought before the law,” he added.
