NONGPOH : Residents living in the Jorabat area have expressed fear and concern after rocks allegedly flew into nearby houses following a blasting operation at a private site in Mawsmai village.
According to local residents, the blasting took place in the early hours of Thursday, at around 3 am to 4 am, startling families from their sleep. They alleged that stones were hurled towards residential houses, creating panic among those living close to the site.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident. However, residents said the situation could have resulted in a serious tragedy had the rocks struck anyone.
The affected residents have raised concerns over the safety of people living in the area and questioned who would be held responsible if such incidents caused injuries or loss of life in the future.
They also pointed out that the locality is already vulnerable to frequent flooding during heavy rainfall, and said the blasting has further increased their worries over public safety.
Residents have urged the concerned authorities to investigate the incident and take appropriate action to ensure such occurrences do not happen again.
