Shillong, January 19, 2026: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Employment and Monitoring Cell on Monday once again met the Chairman of the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) to raise concerns over several pending issues that have not yet been implemented, despite repeated assurances. The union stated that these reforms are essential to ensure clean, transparent, and fair recruitment in Meghalaya.
The KSU said that it has raised these matters multiple times in the past and has also carried out several agitations to press for reforms in the recruitment system.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Chairman of the KSU Employment and Monitoring Cell, Ruben Najiar, said that following earlier protests by the union, the State Government had constituted a committee last year to examine the demands raised by KSU. He stated that nearly half of the recommendations have since been included in proposed amendments for implementation.
However, Najiar pointed out that several important issues remain pending, as the committee has not yet brought forward all the recommendations.
He said that the union has once again approached the MPSC, demanding immediate implementation of the recommendations already submitted by the committee. The KSU has now given the MPSC a deadline of one week to act on these long-pending reforms.
Najiar further warned that if the demands are not implemented within the stipulated time, the union may no longer restrict itself to dialogue and submission of memorandums. He stated that although the KSU has followed the democratic path, there has been no meaningful change so far.
He cautioned that if the rightful and constitutional path fails to bring results, the situation could escalate, remarking that sometimes only extreme pressure forces change.
