SHILLONG : The Meghalaya junior boys football team today left Shillong for Bengaluru to begin their campaign in the Junior Boys National Football Championship 2026-27 (Tier 1) for the Dr BC Roy Trophy.
Meghalaya have been placed in Group C alongside Tamil Nadu, Mizoram and Maharashtra, with the group winner advancing to the semifinals.
Meghalaya will begin their campaign against Tamil Nadu on September 1 at 11am.
The 20-member squad will be coached by experienced head coach Playerson Jitem Syiemlieh, with Snenglang Wankhar serving as assistant coach. Amit Rai is the team manager, while Levon Lyngdoh will work as the team physiotherapist.
A small send-off ceremony was held at the MFA Ground in Shillong before the team’s departure. Meghalaya Football Association President Hamletson Dohling, Vice-President Cliff Nongrum and Youth Development Cell Chairman Freddy Kharpran were present, along with family members who came to wish the players well.
Addressing the young players, Dohling stressed the importance of discipline both on and off the football pitch.
He encouraged the players to make the most of the opportunity to represent Meghalaya at the national level and use the tournament as an important step in their footballing development.
