SHILLONG: Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma on Friday met Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram at his office in New Delhi and raised issues concerning the second phase of the new Meghalaya Legislative Assembly building and pending scholarships for tribal students in the state.
During the meeting, Sangma submitted the proposal along with the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the second phase of the new Meghalaya Legislative Assembly building.
The Speaker also raised the issue of the pending central share of scholarships for tribal students in Meghalaya and requested the Union Minister to facilitate the early release of the outstanding amount.
Sangma further urged that the pending scholarship amount be released in a single instalment instead of being disbursed in several instalments. He said this would help prevent uncertainty and dissatisfaction among students waiting for scholarship assistance.
The Speaker emphasised the importance of timely disbursement of scholarship funds so that tribal students in Meghalaya do not face unnecessary difficulties in pursuing their education.
The meeting also covered matters related to the development of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and the educational welfare of tribal students in the state.
