SHILLONG : Meghalaya Police have intensified vigilance and vehicle checking across Shillong following a series of arson incidents in the city.
Police personnel have been conducting checks on vehicles, including inspecting storage compartments of two-wheelers, as part of heightened security measures to prevent further incidents.
Meanwhile, heavy security has been deployed at Khyndailad to enforce prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which prohibit processions and sit-in protests at the location.
The district administration imposed the prohibitory orders following inputs that the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) was planning to hold a sit-in protest at Khyndailad.
Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel, SOT vehicles and fire tenders have been stationed at the location as authorities stepped up security and preparedness to prevent any violation of the orders.
The heightened security measures come amid continued tension in Shillong following recent incidents of arson and protests.
