SHILLONG : Teachers engaged under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in Meghalaya can expect their pending salaries for May, June and July to be disbursed soon after the Centre released the required funds, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said on Friday.
Rymbui said SSA teachers had been receiving only the state’s share of their salaries since April as the Central share under the scheme had not been released.
The delay in releasing the Central funds was raised by the Meghalaya government during the national Education Ministers’ conclave held in New Delhi on July 22 and 23.
“I informed the Government of India and the then Education Minister that Meghalaya had released only the state share for May, June and July,” Rymbui told reporters.
He said the Union government had assured that the pending amount would be cleared within a week following the state’s intervention.
According to the minister, the Central share for May, June and July has now been released and transferred to different districts of Meghalaya.
“The Central share for May, June and July has been released to different districts. The pending salaries of SSA teachers will be disbursed in due course,” he said.
The release of the Central share is expected to clear the pending salary dues of SSA teachers for the three months.
