SHILLONG : National People’s Party (NPP) national vice president and Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Friday said the party has not yet taken any decision regarding its nominee for the upcoming Rajya Sabha seat from Meghalaya.
Speaking to reporters, Dhar said the party would discuss the matter internally after the tenure of the sitting Rajya Sabha MP WR Kharlukhi comes to an end.
“We are yet to take a decision. Let his tenure complete first then we will sit as a party,” Dhar said.
He was referring to the term of Dr WR Kharlukhi, which is expected to end in June.
When asked about demands from sections in Garo Hills projecting James Sangma as a possible candidate for the Upper House, Dhar said there was nothing wrong with such suggestions but maintained that the party had not made any decision yet.
On whether the nomination should be based on regional representation, Dhar said the NPP does not take decisions region-wise.
“We never think region wise. Whatever the party thinks appropriate we will go with that because it is a collective decision, not a one man show decision,” he said.
Dhar also described the NPP as a disciplined party that takes decisions collectively after consulting its leaders and members
