SHILLONG : Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home and PWD (Roads & Buildings), Prestone Tynsong, on Wednesday directed the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) to expedite the issuance of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for the construction of PMGSY-III roads along the international border with Bangladesh.
After chairing a joint meeting with officials from the BSF and CPWD, Tynsong said that delays in obtaining NOCs are holding up crucial road infrastructure projects in border areas.
He informed that one of the affected stretches is located in the Ranikor area, where the road falls under the jurisdiction of both CPWD and BSF. Although the project has already received sanction for reconstruction, work cannot begin without the required approvals from both agencies.
Tynsong further highlighted similar challenges in Garo Hills, where certain road stretches fall outside the existing border fencing. According to him, the BSF has raised concerns over these alignments, suggesting that such roads should be realigned within the fencing to avoid objections from the Bangladesh side.
He noted that construction activities outside the fencing have faced resistance from Bangladesh authorities, creating additional complications for infrastructure development in these sensitive zones.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that the matter was thoroughly discussed during the meeting, and both CPWD and BSF have been instructed to take up the issue with their higher authorities and issue the necessary NOCs at the earliest.
He emphasized that the roads are already included under the PMGSY-III scheme and are vital for improving connectivity in border regions, adding that timely approval will allow work to commence without further delay.
