SHILLONG: KSU leader Ruben Najiar surrendered before the court on September 1, 2026, after the 14-day bail period granted to him by the District and Sessions Judge came to an end. His surrender also came after the death of his father.
Speaking to media persons, Najiar commented on the incident that took place on September 19 and maintained that the organisation had not committed any wrongdoing.
Najiar said the police had made arrests based on their own allegations, adding that the KSU leaders did not assault or attack anyone as alleged. He, however, said that despite this, the leaders of the organisation were prepared to face arrest and accept the legal process.
On the police’s claim that permission had been granted for the KSU rally based on trust, Najiar rejected the explanation. He alleged that the permission was not an expression of trust but rather a “trap” aimed at the organisation.
According to Najiar, the KSU was fully aware of the situation because of the issues it takes up and its continued stand on matters concerning the people.
He further alleged that the government was aware that it could not easily pressure the organisation over the issues it raises. Najiar claimed that this was why attempts were being made to create disturbances and subsequently blame the KSU.
The allegations made by Najiar remain his version of the events, while the police’s position and any further legal proceedings will determine the facts of the case.
