SHILLONG : Sacred Heart Theological College, Mawlai, Shillong, celebrated the Golden Jubilee of its reopening with a grand two-day programme held on May 16 and 17 under the theme, “Shepherds in the Making… Shaped by His Heart – Expressions of Mission: A Mosaic.”
The celebration marked 50 years of the institution’s journey since its reopening in 1976 and brought together priests, religious, formees, youth, and lay collaborators in a vibrant atmosphere of faith, gratitude, and mission.
The programme featured dramas, dances, instrumental performances, talks, and visual presentations presented by the Brothers and Sisters of the College, highlighting the institution’s mission of forming shepherds according to the Heart of Jesus.
The first day of the celebration was dedicated to priests, religious, and formees. Rev. Sr. Mable Dhar VSDB, Mother General of the Visitation Sisters of Don Bosco, attended the programme as the Chief Guest.
Around 650 priests, religious members, and formees participated in the event, which focused on expressing gratitude and appreciation for the dedicated service rendered by those involved in priestly and religious formation over the years.
The second day centred on youth and lay collaborators. Rev. Fr. Edmund Gomes SDB, former Rector of the College, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Nearly 600 young people enthusiastically took part in the celebration, making it a vibrant expression of unity, mission, and Christian faith.
The Golden Jubilee celebration also served as a moment of renewal for the institution as it reaffirmed its commitment to continue forming shepherds according to the Heart of Jesus for the service of the Church and society.
