Shillong : The city of Shillong on Friday witnessed the opening of Meghalaya’s first Sea World Carnival, featuring a unique aquarium-tunnel experience with more than 1.5 lakh fish from over 100 species.
The carnival has been set up at the SRGT Polo Parking Lot and will remain open to visitors until April 5.
Organised by Dysnieland Mela (OPC) Pvt Ltd, the event aims to give visitors an experience similar to famous aquarium tunnels seen in cities such as Dubai and Singapore.
Speaking to reporters, the event director Shamim Shaikh said the carnival includes a specially designed tunnel aquarium along with a mermaid show and a wide variety of fish species including Lionhead, Parrot Fish, Elephant Nose Fish, Angel Fish, Albino Fish, Arowana and the giant Arapaima from the Amazon.
According to the organisers, a special hangar has been constructed to house the aquariums, with a trained team assigned to ensure proper feeding and maintenance of the fish throughout the event.
Entry to the carnival grounds has been fixed at ₹30, while visitors who wish to experience the fish tunnel will need to pay ₹200.
Apart from the aquarium attraction, the carnival also features handicraft and furniture stalls, amusement rides cleared through safety checks, and a food court, making it a family-friendly entertainment destination for residents and tourists visiting Shillong.
