The Kharang Social and Cultural Club has on Saturday kicked off their yearlong golden jubilee celebration with Sports Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh announcing sanction of Rs 26 lakh for an improvement of the Umtangphar football ground besides others, officials said.
The Club which turns 50 year-old this fall, is perhaps one of the first few clubs registered after Meghalaya was given its statehood, they said.
Sports Minister who attended the opening ceremony of the celebration, announced that the government has sanctioned =Rs 26 lakh for improvement of the Umtangphar football ground, work for which will commence in a few days.
The Minister has also announced additional funds for improvement of the approach road to the ground, where the major celebration of club will take place.
Former rangbah shnong Yesroy Pde, narrated the club’s 50 year’s journey and the socio-cultural initiatives undertaken by the club since its inception.
He congratulated the new leaders and members of the club who have taken upon themselves to further improve the functioning of the club.
The president of the club and executive committee members also informed that a series of sports activities will be announced shortly as part of the golden jubilee celebration.
