RI-BHOI, MEGHALAYA : The University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) organised its Orientation Programme 2026 at the Central Auditorium of the university on Thursday, welcoming newly enrolled students to their academic journey.
The programme was attended by Shri Temjen Imna Along, Minister of Higher Education and Tourism, Government of Nagaland, as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the gathering, Temjen Imna Along spoke about the importance of education in shaping individuals and society. He encouraged students to remain committed to learning, build confidence and character, and make meaningful use of their time at the university.
He also stressed the importance of young people preparing themselves to contribute positively to society and to the future of the region and the country.
Delivering the Welcome Address, Shri Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor of USTM and Chairman of ERDF, welcomed the Nagaland minister and the newly enrolled students to the university.
The orientation programme provided an opportunity for new students to familiarise themselves with university life, its values and the academic and other opportunities available at USTM.
The programme also highlighted the importance of holistic development alongside academic excellence, encouraging students to focus not only on their studies but also on developing the skills and values needed for their future.
The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Prof. G. D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, USTM.
Established in 2011, USTM is the first state private university in the field of Science and Technology in North East India. The university received an ‘A Grade’ accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in its first cycle of assessment in 2021.
USTM continues to focus on teaching, research, innovation and community engagement, while promoting inclusivity, sustainability and regional development.
